TMC Crisis Highlights: Mamata Banerjee should be arrested, says Bengal minister after CID visit

West Bengal TMC Crisis Highlights: The Trinamool Congress' deepening internal crisis spilled into the open on Tuesday as the party leadership and a rebel faction traded sharp attacks amid claims that a group of MPs is preparing to back the BJP-led NDA in Parliament. At a press conference, TMC Lok Sabha Chief Whip Kalyan Banerjee dismissed the dissidents as "gaddars" and "traitors", daring them to resign from the party and seek a fresh mandate from voters. Banerjee claimed the rebels stood "exposed" the moment they met senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav and accused them of abandoning party workers while enjoying the privileges of office. He also took aim at rebel MP Sharmila Sarkar, alleging she had remained silent on issues such as the RG Kar hospital controversy. The remarks came hours after rebel leader and Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar claimed that nearly 20 Trinamool MPs had decided to write to Speaker Om Birla expressing support for the NDA. The dissident camp is expected to argue that Ghosh Dastidar remains the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle over the Trinamool's parliamentary leadership and future. TMC Political Crisis: Kalyan Banerjee loses cool after hearing 'Jai Shree Ram' and 'thief' chants

High drama unfolded at the Kolkata airport on Tuesday afternoon when Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee lost his cool after being surrounded and heckled by a crowd chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' and labelling him a "chor" (thief).

The incident took place as the veteran lawmaker arrived at the airport and was in the middle of addressing mediapersons. Suddenly, a group of people standing nearby began shouting religious slogans and aggressively chanting 'chor, chor' at the leader.

Visibly infuriated by the provocation, the TMC MP completely lost his temper and launched a fierce counter-attack against the crowd. Confronting the hecklers head-on, an aggressive Banerjee fired back, shouting that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is the real thief, and added that Adhikari's father is a thief as well. The sharp political exchange quickly turned the airport terminal into a chaotic battleground of words before security personnel could intervene.
