Karuppu box office Day 9: Suriya's film races towards Rs 250 crore globally
Karuppu staged a sharp box-office recovery on its second Saturday, earning Rs 12.20 crore nett in India. The jump pushed the Suriya-starrer's worldwide total to Rs 217.74 crore, with Tamil Nadu leading the collections.

Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, recorded a strong jump at the box office on its second Saturday after lower collections on Friday. According to the tracking website Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 12.20 crore nett in India on Day 9, up 56.4 per cent from its Day 8 collection of Rs 7.80 crore nett.
With the latest numbers, the film's total India nett collection has reached Rs 133.85 crore, while its India gross stands at Rs 154.99 crore after nine days in theatres. Overseas, Karuppu collected Rs 3.50 crore on Day 9, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 217.74 crore.
Tamil version leads
The film was screened across 4,987 shows nationwide and maintained strong occupancy through the day. The Tamil version remained the biggest contributor, earning Rs 10.60 crore nett from 3,616 shows with an overall occupancy of 49 per cent.
The Telugu version added Rs 1.60 crore nett from 1,371 shows and recorded 24 per cent occupancy on Saturday.
Occupancy for the Tamil version rose as the day progressed, opening at 25.46 per cent in the morning and climbing to 62.69 per cent during the night shows.
Tamil Nadu continued to be the film's strongest market, contributing Rs 10.35 crore gross on Saturday alone. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana added Rs 1.60 crore each, while Kerala contributed Rs 40 lakh.
