In her exclusive interview with India Today TV, Trinamool Congress’s MP from Birbhum, Satabdi Roy, took a jibe at the former Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, for the ongoing political turmoil in the party.

Speaking to Indrajit Kundu, a day after attending a meeting with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at her residence, Roy pointed fingers at Banerjee, citing that the latter was ignorant of the mounting corruption allegations in the state, and as a result, the party, which was in power for 15 years, suffered a major blow.

“I am shocked how the party broke just after one loss,” Roy told India Today TV. “It has happened solely because of the incidents of corruption. As a seasoned politician, Mamata Banerjee should have understood the writing on the wall; however, she failed to sense the undercurrent,” Roy added.

Furthermore, the three-term MP from the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency said that the massive corruption scandals have completely overshadowed and neutralised all the developmental work achieved by the TMC government in the state.

PEOPLE GOT ANGRY OVER ABHISHEK BANERJEE’S LIFESTYLE, SAYS ROY

After the party’s major setback, many TMC leaders lambasted Abhishek Banerjee, directly making him responsible for the party’s electoral rout. However, Roy took a slightly different stance as she said that ‘TMC won multiple elections because of Abhishek Banerjee.”

“People are blaming Abhishek Banerjee for the loss. However, I would say that the party won many elections because of him also. He had his own way of running party operations, and also took some wise decisions as well,” said Roy.

However, the rebel MP, who once dominated the silver screen in Bengal, said that Abhishek’s lifestyle stood against what Mamata Banerjee advocated throughout his life.

“Mamata Banerjee is known for her simplicity and simple lifestyle. However, Abhishek Banerjee was different. Despite being a politician, he led a lifestyle that many could not relate to, and hence public anger brewed against him and the party,” told Roy.

Concluding the interview, Roy further added that the 20 rebel MPs would now work as a bloc and advocate for the development of the state. “We sought the CM’s support and the CM assured us of that,” Roy said.
