Competition at the box office

Backed by Karan Johar's production banner, Chand Mera Dil faced competition from the holdover release Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Wamiqa Gabbi. It also clashed with the Hollywood release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Even with the competition, Chand Mera Dil opened ahead of Ek Din, starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, which had collected about Rs 1.15 crore on its first day.

All about Chand Mera Dil

Directed by Vivek Soni, the film stars Lakshya as Aarav, Ananya Panday as Chandni and Aastha Singh as Jyotsna. The cast also includes Pratham Rathod, Aashish Dubey, Ankur Poddar and Elvis Jose.

India Today's review of the film said, "Chand Mera Dil often feels less like a theatrical romance and more like an Ekta Kapoor television serial with a better costume budget. Actually, scratch that - it genuinely plays like a modern-day Kasautii Zindagii Kay (this is the right spelling, btw). All that's missing is dramatic thunder sounds and someone re-entering after plastic surgery. Because at some point, you will spot an Anurag, a Prerna, a Sneha, and a Mr Bajaj lurking inside this film."

Chand Mera Dil was released in theatres on May 22.
