A middle-aged fan fainted outside Amitabh Bachchan's Mumbai residence, Jalsa, on Sunday, May 24, after waiting for hours in the heat to catch a glimpse of the actor. Bachchan has for years continued his Sunday tradition of greeting fans outside his home, and often shares pictures from the gathering on his personal blog.

A video shared by a paparazzi account on Instagram showed the fan collapsing on the road outside Jalsa as others nearby rushed to help him. Bystanders were seen holding him and then making him sit by the roadside to ensure he was safe.

Hundreds of fans had gathered outside Jalsa on May 24 for Bachchan's regular Sunday meet. The veteran actor frequently shares pictures and videos from these meetings on his Tumblr account, and has described them as a way to express his gratitude for the love and support he receives from fans.

A few days earlier, Bachchan had said he had spoken to his security team about treating fans properly. He wrote, "This is my pride and my honour to have the blessings of the many .. they make me believe .. they make me breathe another day .. they provoke me to work and to work harder and to deliver... they are my Ef .. my extended family (sic)."

He added, "I also spoke to the security, so that that they know how to behave with the well wishers. How they react to the public will reflect how public thinks that it is my own reaction with them (sic)!"

Bachchan also wrote, "In this heat, they have been waiting for hours to get a glimpse and that is no small thing. After that, to not behave well with them, that is not okay. The public is our god. Love, respect and good wishes to them, that's all they want. They give us so much and we need to mirror the same love and respect for them (sic)."

Bachchan will next be seen in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. The film is directed by Nag Ashwin and also features Prabhas and Kamal Haasan.

The actor's last theatrical release was Rajinikanth's Tamil action-drama, Vettaiyan (2024).
