Hero MotoCorp is set to unveil its first flex-fuel motorcycle today, expected to run on 100 per cent ethanol (E100), marking a major step towards cleaner and alternative fuel mobility in India.

Hero MotoCorp is set to mark a significant milestone in India's alternative fuel mobility journey with the unveiling of its first flex-fuel motorcycle today. The launch event, scheduled in New Delhi, will be attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri.
The new motorcycle is expected to become India's first mass-market two-wheeler capable of running on 100 per cent ethanol (E100).
While Hero MotoCorp has not officially disclosed the product name, it is expected that the motorcycle could be based on either the popular Splendor or HF Deluxe commuter platforms. The company had earlier showcased a flex-fuel version of the HF Deluxe at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, indicating its intent to develop ethanol-powered solutions for the mass market.
Flex-fuel vehicles are engineered to operate on multiple blends of petrol and ethanol, including high-ethanol fuels such as E85 and E100. Although most petrol-powered vehicles currently sold in India are compatible with E20 fuel, the government has been encouraging manufacturers to develop vehicles capable of running on higher ethanol blends to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and curb vehicular emissions.
The upcoming motorcycle is expected to play a crucial role in expanding ethanol-based mobility, particularly in the commuter segment where Hero MotoCorp enjoys a dominant market presence and extensive rural reach. If based on the Splendor or HF Deluxe, the model could help accelerate the adoption of flex-fuel technology across a wider customer base.
At present, options in India's flex-fuel two-wheeler space remain limited. Suzuki Motorcycle India offers the E85-compatible Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, while Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India had previously introduced a flex-fuel version of the Honda CB300F before discontinuing it.
