Nissan Tekton to debut on July 9 as brand prepares comeback in mid-size SUV segment
Nissan Motor India is set to expand its SUV portfolio with the upcoming Tekton, a new mid-size SUV debuting on July 9, aimed at reviving the brand's presence in India's competitive SUV market.

After spending a long time relying almost entirely on the Magnite to drive volumes in India, Nissan Motor India is finally preparing a broader product offensive. Following the recent launch of the Gravite MPV based on the Renault Triber, the carmaker is now set to enter one of the country’s most fiercely contested segments with the upcoming Nissan Tekton SUV.
The Tekton will officially make its India debut on July 9, 2026, and will mark Nissan’s return to the mid-size SUV category after the discontinuation of the Kicks in 2023. Positioned in the highly competitive space, the Tekton will go up against established rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and others.
While the Tekton shares its CMF-B architecture with the Renault Duster, Nissan says the SUV has been developed with its own distinct styling, cabin design and brand identity.
Exterior design inspired by global Nissan SUVs
Although heavily camouflaged test vehicles have already been spotted, several styling elements are now evident. Up front, the Tekton is expected to feature a Nissan-specific fascia with a wider grille, slimmer LED daytime running lamps and a connected lighting signature stretching across the nose. Compared to the Duster, the Tekton appears to use more body-coloured surfacing along with added chrome detailing to create a more upscale appearance.
The SUV is also likely to feature redesigned front and rear bumpers, different alloy wheel designs and revised lighting elements. Nissan’s connected LED tail-lamp setup with the illuminated brand logo positioned centrally is expected to become one of the key visual highlights.
In profile, the Tekton retains the upright proportions and traditional SUV stance of the Duster. Ground clearance is expected to remain similar at around 212mm, while higher trims could ride on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225-section tyres.
Overall, the design direction appears to draw inspiration from Nissan’s larger international SUVs, particularly the globally sold Patrol, giving the Tekton a more mature road presence.
Cabin to get Nissan-specific layout and features
Inside, Nissan is expected to significantly differentiate the Tekton from its Renault sibling through a revised dashboard design, fresh upholstery themes and unique trim finishes.
Spy images have already confirmed the presence of a flat-bottom steering wheel, steering-mounted controls and a fully digital instrument cluster. The SUV is also expected to offer a large touchscreen infotainment system with Google built-in functionality, mirroring the technology suite seen on the new Duster globally.
Feature highlights are likely to include:
- Panoramic sunroof
- Ventilated front seats
- Powered driver seat
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Powered tailgate
- 360-degree camera
- Wireless smartphone connectivity
- Level 2 ADAS suite
- Auto headlights and rain-sensing wipers
The Tekton is expected to target buyers looking for a feature-rich family SUV with a more premium cabin experience than Nissan’s current offerings.
Multiple turbo-petrol options expected
Under the hood, the Tekton is likely to share its engine lineup with the upcoming India-spec Renault Duster.
The entry-level variants are expected to use a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 100bhp and 160Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Higher trims could get the more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering approximately 163bhp and 280Nm. This engine is likely to be offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Nissan is also expected to introduce a strong hybrid version at a later stage. This setup could combine a 1.8-litre petrol engine with electric assistance and a 1.4kWh battery pack, offering improved efficiency while helping the brand compete with hybrid rivals in the segment.
The hybrid variant is likely to arrive after Renault introduces the Duster Hybrid in India, which is expected closer to the festive season.
A crucial product for Nissan India
The Tekton will be among Nissan’s most important launches for the Indian market in recent years. With the Magnite continuing as the company’s volume seller and the Gravite strengthening its lineup, the Tekton is expected to play a key role in helping Nissan re-establish itself in mainstream passenger vehicle segments.
More details regarding variant lineup, pricing and launch timelines are expected to be revealed closer to the SUV’s official debut in July.
