Tesla Model Y Premium RWD launched in India at Rs 50.89 lakh
Tesla has launched the 2026 Model Y Premium RWD in India at Rs 50.89 lakh, introducing a more affordable entry into its EV lineup with updated interiors, new technology and 500km range.

Tesla has expanded its India portfolio with the launch of the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive at an introductory price of Rs 50.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as the new entry point into Tesla’s Indian lineup, the five-seat electric SUV undercuts the larger six-seat Model Y L by Rs 11.1 lakh while bringing updated styling, upgraded cabin technology and new interior themes.
The newly introduced variant comes with a claimed WLTP-certified driving range of up to 500km. Deliveries for the Model Y Premium RWD are scheduled to begin in July 2026.
Tesla has simultaneously streamlined the Model Y range in India by discontinuing the Long Range Premium RWD version, which was earlier priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company will now retail the Model Y in two forms – the five-seat Premium RWD and the six-seat Model Y L Premium AWD.
Alongside the Model Y Premium RWD, Tesla continues to offer the recently launched six-seat Model Y L Premium AWD in India at a starting price of Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The long-wheelbase version offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 681km and accelerates from 0-100kmph in 5.0 seconds.
A major highlight of the 2026 Model Y Premium RWD is its refreshed interior layout. Buyers can choose between an all-Black cabin finish and the newly introduced Zen Grey interior theme, both aimed at delivering a more premium and minimalist in-cabin experience.
Tesla has also upgraded the infotainment system with a larger 16-inch touchscreen for front occupants, featuring improved responsiveness and revised software integration for quicker access to navigation, entertainment and vehicle functions. Rear passengers additionally get an 8.0-inch display.
The electric SUV offers seating for five passengers and comes with power-folding rear seats. Tesla claims the Model Y Premium provides up to 2,138 litres of cargo space, enhancing practicality for everyday family use.
While Tesla has not officially disclosed battery capacity or motor output figures for the India-spec version, the rear-wheel-drive Model Y sold in international markets uses a 64kWh battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor.
Tesla claims the Model Y Premium RWD can sprint from 0-100kph in 5.9 seconds and attain a top speed of 201kmph. The EV also supports DC fast charging at speeds of up to 175kW through Tesla Superchargers, enabling up to 238km of range recovery in just 15 minutes under ideal conditions.
To make ownership more accessible, Tesla says customers can purchase the Model Y Premium RWD with EMI plans starting from Rs 39,990 per month, subject to financing approval and applicable terms. The plan is based on a seven-year tenure with a down payment of Rs 6 lakh.
According to the company, owners switching from similarly priced petrol or diesel SUVs could save up to Rs 20,000 per month through lower running and maintenance costs.
Tesla says it will continue expanding its retail, after-sales and charging infrastructure across the country. The company currently operates experience centres in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram and Bengaluru, while home charging solutions are being offered nationwide.
