Assured buyback programme introduced
Alongside the launch, Volkswagen has rolled out an assured buyback programme offering up to 75 percent of the ex-showroom price as residual value for ownership up to three years or 30,000km (terms and conditions apply). Applicable on bookings made until May 31, 2026, the scheme is aimed at lowering long-term ownership concerns and improving resale confidence.
Exterior design
The most visible changes are up front, where the Taigun adopts a sleeker, more modern face inspired by Volkswagen’s global SUV design language. A slimmer grille is flanked by redesigned LED headlamps connected by a light bar, complemented by an illuminated VW logo.
In profile, the silhouette remains familiar, though new 17-inch gloss-black alloy wheels add a fresh touch. At the rear, updated LED tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators, a revised bumper and an illuminated badge enhance the SUV’s premium appeal. GT variants continue with their signature blacked-out styling.
Interior and features
Inside, the cabin retains its basic layout but gets updated trims, upholstery and dual-tone themes. Key upgrades include a larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with improved graphics and AI-backed voice functionality.
Volkswagen has also added a panoramic sunroof, a long-awaited feature in this segment. Other highlights include ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, ambient lighting, wireless charging and an improved air-conditioning system.
Powertrain unchanged, new 8-speed AT introduced
Mechanically, the Taigun continues with its existing turbo-petrol engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI produces 115bhp and 178Nm, while the 1.5-litre TSI delivers 150bhp and 250Nm.
The key update is the introduction of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre engine, replacing the earlier 6-speed unit. A manual gearbox remains on offer. The 1.5-litre engine continues with the 7-speed DSG automatic and now gains rear disc brakes.
Volkswagen also claims an efficiency improvement of around six percent for the 1.0 TSI.
Safety credentials
Safety continues to be a strong point for the Taigun, with features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold assist and ISOFIX mounts offered as standard. The SUV retains its 5-star safety rating, reinforcing its appeal among safety-conscious buyers.
Rivals in a crowded segment
The updated Volkswagen Taigun competes in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment against models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and the Renault Duster.
With a broader feature list, updated design and the addition of a new automatic gearbox, Volkswagen is aiming to strengthen the Taigun’s position in one of India’s most hotly contested segments.
