OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hailed India's rapid progress in 'sovereign AI' and said it's well-positioned to lead in AI.
Speaking at AI Impact Summit in Delhi, Sam Altman said, "India, the world's largest democracy, is well-positioned to lead in AI, not just to build it, but to shape it and decide what our future is going to look like." He further noted that over 100 million Indians use ChatGPT weekly, with students making up a third of that base. Altman issued a striking prediction, stating, 'By the end of 2028, more of the world's intellectual capacity could reside inside of data centers than outside of them.' He warned that superintelligence could soon outperform CEOs and scientists, necessitating a global governance mechanism similar to the IAEA. Altman advocated for the democratisation of AI to prevent 'centralized ruin' and 'effective totalitarianism.'
