Jewellery, cash, designer watches stolen from DRDO scientist's Delhi home
The burglary occurred inside the high-security DRDO residential complex in Timarpur and was discovered after neighbours spotted broken locks. The complainant alleged thieves broke open doors and an almirah before escaping.

A burglary has been reported at a residential complex of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in north Delhi’s Timarpur area, where thieves allegedly ran away with cash, jewellery and other valuables worth several lakhs from the house of a scientist, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place inside the DRDO Complex’s Ram Narain Scientist Hostel, considered a high-security residential facility.
According to police, the complainant, Seema Meel, who is posted in Chandigarh, had left Delhi on May 15 to visit her family.
The theft came to light after neighbours noticed broken locks at the residence and informed her about the suspected break-in.
In her complaint lodged at Timarpur Police Station, Meel alleged that burglars broke open three door locks and an almirah before fleeing with valuables kept inside the house.
JEWELLERY, CASH, LUXURY WATCHES STOLEN
Police said the stolen articles included around 280 grams of gold jewellery, silver ornaments, foreign currency, cash and watches.
The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, though officials said the exact assessment is still underway.
According to the FIR, the stolen items included two Daniel Klein watches and one Timex watch, Rs 15,000 in cash, foreign currency comprising 20 pounds and 50 dirhams, a necklace set with earrings, six bangles, seven chains, five additional chains, four sets of earrings, two bangles, one nose pin, two sets of silver anklet and around 20 grams of silver.
“The stolen items included Rs 15,000 in cash, foreign currency, jewellery, including a necklace set with earrings, bangles, chains, and rings, among others, and three watches,” news agency PTI quoted a police officer as saying.
Police said several pieces of jewellery, including bangles, chains and earrings, were among the valuables stolen during the burglary.
A forensic science lab (FSL) team and crime branch officials visited the spot following the complaint and examined the residence for evidence.
CCTV footage from inside the residential complex and surrounding areas is also being scanned as part of the investigation.
Investigators suspect that the accused may have conducted a recce before targeting the house, given the nature of the theft and the fact that the occupants were away at the time of the incident.
Police said a case has been registered at Timarpur Police Station under relevant sections related to theft and housebreaking, and efforts are underway to identify and trace those involved.
No arrests have been made so far.
