Beaten by drunk husband, in-laws: Woman alleges abuse for not giving birth to boy
A Gurugram woman, mother of two daughters, has accused her husband and in-laws of abuse for not giving birth to a boy. Police have begun examining the allegations, including assault, intimidation and gender bias.

A case of alleged domestic violence and gender bias has surfaced in Gurugram, where a woman claimed she was assaulted and thrown out of her in-laws' home for not giving birth to a son. The woman, who later began living with her husband in a rented accommodation, has now accused him of physically assaulting her under the influence of alcohol.
The incident came to light late on Tuesday night when the woman reached a police station in Gurugram with her two young daughters and sought protection from the police. Officials said the woman was medically examined during the night and later escorted safely back to her residence by a police team.
The complainant, identified as Mansi, is originally from Delhi's Paharganj area. She told police that she married Mohit Gupta, a resident of Khandsa in Gurugram, on February 3, 2020. The couple has two daughters, aged five and three.
According to Mansi, the behaviour of her in-laws changed after the birth of the daughters. She alleged that she was repeatedly taunted for not bearing a son and subjected to both mental and physical harassment. In her complaint, Mansi said that after being forced out of her in-laws' home, she started living with her husband in a rented house in Khandsa.
However, she alleged that her husband too began assaulting her frequently. She claimed he often returned home drunk and beat her without provocation. Distressed by the alleged abuse, Mansi left the house with her daughters on Tuesday night and approached the police seeking immediate protection.
The woman has also levelled serious allegations against her in-laws, claiming they regularly instigated her husband against her. According to the complaint, her in-laws allegedly told their son to drive her out of the house because she had only given birth to daughters.
She further alleged that the family was planning to arrange her husband's second marriage.
Mansi also claimed that her in-laws were attempting to avoid legal action by waiting for seven years of marriage to pass before permanently removing her from the family, believing it would help them avoid stringent dowry harassment charges.
She alleged that when she first approached the police station late on Tuesday night after being forced out of the house, no immediate action was taken. According to her, police initiated action only after she began calling senior officials, following which she was taken for medical examination around midnight.
Police later accompanied her to her rented residence in Khandsa and ensured her safe entry into the house.
Police said the allegations are being examined seriously and that the husband and in-laws will be questioned over charges related to domestic violence, assault and criminal intimidation. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
