A Kargil war veteran's family in Pune's Chandan Nagar has alleged harassment by a group of 30 to 40 unidentified men and local police on July 26. The family, which includes veterans from the 1965 and 1971 wars, claims the group stormed their home late at night, demanding proof of Indian citizenship and threatening to label them as 'Rohingyas from Bangladesh' if they failed to provide documents. One family member stated, “They started knocking on the door, kicking us with their feet. When we opened the door, 8-10 people came in together.” The family filed a complaint, but alleges that instead of protection, the male members were taken to the police station and detained. They claim the police only acted after the mob had already threatened them. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
