Speaking on the three-language formula debate at the India Today Conclave Mumbai 2025, economist and educationist Dr Narendra Jadhav stated that 'teaching too many languages all at once from the beginning is certainly going to make, not multilingual experts, but it will create people with very little creativity'.
He explained that following protests against a Government Resolution to compulsorily implement the formula from grade one in Maharashtra, the Chief Minister has withdrawn the order and appointed a new committee which he is chairing.
The discussion also highlighted the socio-political dimensions of language, with another panellist, Ajay Gudavarthy, Professor at the Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), noted that lower castes and Dalits now see English not as a colonial relic but as a 'new economic infrastructure'.
