Covid-19 in India: The good, bad and ugly

India sees over 2 lakh Covid infections for the first time since the pandemic began more than a year ago. Crematoriums and burial grounds are overflowing with bodies. And hospital systems are collapsing.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has decided to enforce a weekend curfew in light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases. The decision was taken following a meeting between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday.

Besides, India's drug regulator will take a decision on applications seeking approval for restricted emergency use of foreign produced Covid-19 vaccines within three working days from the date of submission, the government said on Thursday. Also, the central government has given permission to Mumbai's Haffkin Institute to manufacture Bharat Biotech's anti-coronavirus vaccine Covaxin.
