With the countdown to one of India’s most competitive examinations underway, lakhs of aspirants are now waiting for the release of the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 admit card. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is expected to activate the e-admit card links this week, allowing candidates to access their hall tickets ahead of the May 24 examination.

Once released, registered candidates will be able to download the UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 admit card from the official portals — upsc.gov.in, upsconline.gov.in, and upsconline.nic.in.

Candidates will need either their registration ID or roll number along with their date of birth to log in and download the document.

ADMIT CARDS LIKELY TO BE RELEASED 10–15 DAYS BEFORE EXAM

Although UPSC has not yet announced the official release date, past trends indicate that admit cards are generally issued around 10 to 15 days before the examination. Last year too, hall tickets were released during the second week of May.

The Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 is scheduled for May 24 and will be conducted at centres across the country. The exam serves as the first stage of recruitment for prestigious services including the IAS, IPS, IFS, and several Group A and Group B central services.

UPSC PRELIMS 2026 EXAM TIMINGS

The preliminary examination will be conducted in offline OMR-based mode in two shifts on the same day:

  • General Studies (GS) Paper 1: 9:30 am to 11:30 am
  • CSAT Paper 2: 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Each paper will be of two hours duration, and both papers are mandatory for all candidates.

UPSC is expected to mention detailed reporting timings, exam venue instructions, and candidate guidelines on the individual admit cards. Candidates must reach their examination centres well before the reporting time mentioned on the hall ticket.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD UPSC CSE PRELIMS 2026 ADMIT CARD

Candidates will be able to download the Union Public Service Commission UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 admit card by visiting the official websites — upsc.gov.in or upsconline.gov.in. On the homepage, applicants need to click on the “E-Admit Card” link and carefully read the instructions before proceeding.

Candidates can log in using either their Registration ID or Roll Number, along with their date of birth and captcha code. After submitting the details, the admit card PDF will appear on the screen. Applicants are advised to download the hall ticket and take a clear printout on A4-sized paper for examination day use.

Candidates are advised to carefully verify details such as their name, photograph, roll number, exam centre, and reporting time after downloading the admit card.

CARRY THESE DOCUMENTS TO THE EXAM CENTRE

UPSC candidates must carry:

  • A printed copy of the e-admit card
  • A valid original photo identity proof

Without these documents, entry to the examination hall may not be permitted.

NO CHANGE IN UPSC CSE EXAM PATTERN FOR 2026

UPSC has confirmed that the Civil Services Examination pattern remains unchanged for 2026.

The structure, which has been in place since 2013, continues as follows:

PRELIMS

  • GS Paper 1: 100 questions, 200 marks
  • CSAT Paper 2: 80 questions, 200 marks

MAINS

  • 9 descriptive papers
  • 7 merit papers carrying a total of 1,750 marks

PERSONALITY TEST

  • Interview/Personality Test: 275 marks

The final merit list will continue to be prepared out of a total of 2,025 marks.

No modifications to the examination structure were announced in the UPSC notification released on February 4, 2026.

With less than two weeks remaining for the preliminary examination, the release of the admit card marks the beginning of the final phase of preparation for UPSC aspirants.

Candidates are advised to keep checking the official UPSC portals regularly, download their hall tickets as soon as they are released, and carefully read all examination-day instructions to avoid last-minute issues.
