India must revamp skill training to bridge talent gap: Experts

At the India Today South Conclave 2025, industry leaders G D Rajkumar and Kanishka Arumugam addressed India’s persistent skill gap despite its young workforce. Arumugam emphasised that upskilling is essential for everyone—from CEOs to watchmen—and that future jobs will require collaboration with AI.

Rajkumar highlighted lessons from Germany and Switzerland, advocating for hands-on master training institutes and better recognition for skilled workers.

Both stressed stronger academia-industry collaboration, demand-driven curricula, and industry-led skill programs supported by government funding. The session underscored the urgency of revamping skill development to prepare India’s workforce for an AI-driven, competitive global economy.
