According to an update issued at 6 pm on May 26, CBSE said it is continuing efforts to provide students access to evaluated answer books through the designated portal and registered email IDs.

CBSE added that the remaining pending requests are expected to be fulfilled by May 27.

The board also announced that the portal for verification of marks and re-evaluation of answer books is expected to go live on May 29, 2026, allowing students to move to the next stage of the post-result process.

HOW DID THE CONTROVERSY BEGIN?

CBSE declared the Class 12 Result 2026 on May 13, which showed a decline of around 3 percentage points in the overall pass percentage compared to the previous year. This year, the board introduced a new evaluation mechanism called On-Screen Marking (OSM).

Following the result declaration, several students began raising concerns over their scores, with some alleging they had received lower marks than expected. Questions also emerged from schools regarding the evaluation process and the new system.

Two days after the result announcement, on May 15, CBSE officials held a press conference to address growing concerns.

During the briefing, the board announced measures aimed at increasing transparency, including a decision to provide scanned copies of evaluated answer sheets to students at a reduced fee.

The current debate around CBSE’s re-evaluation mechanism gained attention after some Class 12 students alleged discrepancies in scanned answer sheets received from the board.

Complaints involving alleged handwriting mismatches, missing pages and delayed answer sheet access surfaced on social media, prompting wider discussions around transparency in the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

CBSE has maintained that safeguards are in place and has issued multiple clarifications on evaluation and digital systems amid the controversy.
