CBSE acknowledged discrepancies in multiple Class 12 answer sheet cases after students raised concerns online.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has admitted to discrepancies in Class 12 answer sheet evaluations and said marks will be revised in two affected cases after a student’s viral social media post exposed an apparent Physics answer sheet mix-up during the re-evaluation process.

The controversy erupted after Vedant Srivastava, the student, alleged that the Physics answer sheet uploaded by CBSE under its new Online Script Monitoring (OSM) system did not belong to him, raising fears of serious evaluation errors that could impact marks and college admissions.

On May 23, he shared a series of posts on X, detailing his experience, saying he was left “shattered” after receiving photocopies of his evaluated answer sheets and discovering that the Physics script shared by CBSE appeared to be someone else’s.

Following the uproar, CBSE acknowledged the mismatch in the Physics paper and also accepted a separate complaint related to a Chemistry answer sheet, triggering scrutiny of the board’s digital evaluation and verification mechanism.

The Board's Joint Secretary (Coordination) also wrote to Vedant, attaching what was described as his correct Physics answer book and confirming that his result would be revised.

The reply to the student

In the email sent to the student, the board said: “Please find attached your correct answer book for Physics. Your result will be updated based on the new marks of Physics shortly.”

The communication effectively confirmed the discrepancy flagged by the student and indicated that the marks would be corrected.

Another similar case also surfaced on social media involving a Chemistry answer sheet. In a post shared online, a student said CBSE had responded to their complaint and accepted the concern raised regarding the evaluation process.

“CBSE replied to our email and confirmed that our concern regarding the Chemistry answer sheet was valid. Thank you to everyone who helped bring attention to this. Your support meant a lot. Waiting for the next steps from CBSE now,” the post read.

Reply to the student

Sources told India Today earlier that CBSE had taken up Vedant’s matter on “top priority” after the issue went viral online. The board had also contacted the student directly following the attention generated on social media.

Vedant had shared images of the answer sheets provided by the board, raising questions about the evaluation and document-sharing process followed during post-result verification and re-evaluation.

Sources also said that a dedicated CBSE team is monitoring complaints and concerns related to board examination results being raised across social media platforms.

The developments have brought renewed scrutiny to CBSE’s post-result procedures, including access to answer sheet photocopies, verification requests and re-evaluation mechanisms available to students after declaration of results.
