In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party joined hands after 26 years to fight against a resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. All parties appear to be indulging in competitive politics over Muslims in the state. Muslims residents in Deoband were handed Ayushman Bharat cards with the promise of free health treatment of upto 5 lakh rupees by the government.
Bilkis Bano, a resident said, "I like PM Modi. Even CM [Yogi Adityanath] has done a lot for us. We have been provided house, LPG and a ration card." However, BJP is still not deemed trustworthy by some residents.
