Chhitmahals were the enclaves along the Bangladesh–India border where people lived without a nation, in several enclaves of either country (land parcels located across the border). However, things changed after the historic Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh in 2015.
After the signing of the agreement, both the countries offered these enclave dwellers a choice of returning to their homeland or staying back wherever they were. India Today visited this region, which comes under West Bengal, and spoke to the locals as they are ready to exercise their franchise in this Assembly polls. Watch the ground report for more.
