This is a significant setback for actor Jacqueline Fernandez as the Supreme Court has refused to entertain her plea seeking the quashing of a money laundering case against her involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The court dismissed the plea, granting her the liberty "to approach the court at an appropriate stage." Her legal team argued that she was not an accused in the main predicate offence of extortion and that there was no allegation she helped launder the money. However, the court stated this was not the correct stage for her to seek such relief. With the dismissal of this plea, the trial against the actor is set to continue, although charges are reportedly yet to be framed. The court noted that observations made by the High Court in its earlier order would not prejudice the framing of charges.
