Rs 1.68-crore meat plant, selling beef under guise of fish, sealed in UP's Bijnor
A joint team of Bijnor and Jalaun police, led by SDM Smriti Mishra, sealed a meat plant owned by Atiq Ahmed, taking action under the Gangster Act in an alleged beef smuggling case.

In a major crackdown on alleged illegal beef trade, authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district have sealed a meat processing unit valued at approximately Rs 1.68 crore. The administration on Wednesday sealed Umar International Meat Plant located in Sahaspur area of Bijnor.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Bijnor and Jalaun police under the supervision of Dhampur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Smriti Mishra.
Officials said the action was taken against the meat plant owner, Atiq Ahmed, under provisions of the Gangster Act in connection with an alleged beef smuggling racket.
According to the administration, the property attached in the case has an estimated value of around Rs 1.68 crore.
The process for attachment of the property was initiated following orders issued by the Jalaun District Magistrate.
After the attachment proceedings, SDM Smriti Mishra was appointed as the receiver of the property.
Investigations conducted by police reportedly found that meat supplied from the plant was beef, leading to the registration of cases in multiple districts.
Authorities alleged that the accused transported beef while disguising it as fish feed to evade detection.
Police said cases were registered in both Jalaun and Bijnor after inspections conducted in Mathura allegedly confirmed the presence of beef in vehicles linked to the operation.
Officials maintain that assets generated through the illegal trade are now being attached under provisions of the Gangster Act.
A formal notice regarding the attachment and sealing of the meat plant has been affixed to the premises, which has since been taken into administrative custody.
The action in Bijnor comes just two days after the Indore district administration invoked the National Security Act against two men accused of involvement in cow slaughter and the beef trade in Madhya Pradesh.
Officials identified the accused as Qadir Mohammad, 35, and Mohammad Aabad alias Kalla, 29, both residents of Banda Basti in the Mhow area.
District Magistrate Shivam Verma issued detention orders against the duo under the NSA.
According to officials, multiple cases involving allegations of hurting religious sentiments, disturbing public peace and other serious offences have already been registered against them.
Under Madhya Pradesh law, the slaughter of bovines, including cows, calves, bulls and oxen, as well as the possession and transportation of beef, is prohibited.
As per NSA provisions, a detention order issued under the Act functions like a warrant of arrest.
Once detained, an individual can be held at a designated facility for up to 12 months, although the detention may be revoked earlier depending on the circumstances.
