Delhi Police arrest 5 Bangladeshi men from Delhi for illegal overstay in India
Delhi Police detained five Bangladeshi nationals in Mukherjee Nagar after verifying their visa status. The case has led to deportation proceedings and a wider drive against visa overstayers in the district.

Five Bangladeshi nationals were caught in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar for allegedly overstaying in India after the expiry of their visas. The action was taken during a special drive launched by the local police against illegal immigrants and foreign nationals residing in the country beyond their permitted stay.
According to police, the operation was initiated after information was received about a minor altercation between two groups in the area. During the incident, local residents reportedly noticed two individuals speaking in Bangla and became suspicious about their presence. The matter was subsequently reported to Mukherjee Nagar police station.
Acting on the information, police formed a dedicated team to verify the identities and residential status of the suspected individuals. During questioning, the two men revealed that they were staying at a rented accommodation in Indira Vikas Colony along with three other Bangladeshi nationals.
Further investigation led police to the rented premises, where all five individuals were found residing. Enquiries revealed that they had entered India legally from Bangladesh on different dates through the air route but had continued to stay in the country even after their visas had expired.
Police said the five men had allegedly come to Delhi while exploring employment opportunities in Greece. According to investigators, they had been waiting since December 2025 for interview calls or job offers from Greece and remained in India despite the expiry of their visa validity.
During the investigation, police also found that the men had initially stayed at various hotels in Delhi before shifting to Indira Vikas Colony. Their relocation was allegedly facilitated by an associate identified as Ganpati Biswas, a resident of Malda in West Bengal.
Officials said the inquiry established that all five individuals were residing illegally in India after overstaying their visas. Efforts are currently underway to trace and caught Biswas for further questioning and legal action.
Following the verification process, the detained Bangladeshi nationals were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). Authorities have initiated deportation proceedings in accordance with established legal procedures.
Police said the drive against illegal immigrants and visa overstayers will continue across the district as part of ongoing efforts to identify and take action against foreign nationals residing unlawfully in the national capital.
