Parliament Budget Session 2026 Highlights: Rahul Gandhi backed pro-Hidma chants, Amit Shah rains fire in Lok Sabha

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said he wants to question those he described as “urban Naxals,” alleging that their articles focus on engaging with those who take up arms but remain silent on innocent victims killed by Naxals. He said there is no mention of mothers whose children were forcibly recruited, farmers who were maimed, or the widows of over 5,000 martyred security personnel. Shah said he does not accept what he called their “double standards,” alleging they are not humanitarian but supporters of Naxal ideology.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah alleged that Rahul Gandhi had shared the stage with Naxal sympathisers and backed pro-Hidma chants. He made the remarks during the discussion on the fight against Naxalism, targeting the Opposition over its stance on the issue.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the Naxal-free movement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the credit for this progress goes to CAPF jawans, especially CoBRA and Central Reserve Police Force personnel, along with state police, particularly the Chhattisgarh Police, DRG jawans, and the local tribal population. He said the movement towards a Naxal-free India has been possible due to their support, and paid tribute on behalf of Parliament to those who were martyred.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the fight against Naxalism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Communist Party of India was established in 1925 following the formation of a communist government in Russia, alleging that the Russian government supported the creation of communist parties worldwide, including in India. He said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was formed in 1964, and later in 1969, the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) was established specifically to oppose parliamentary politics. Shah said the objective of CPI (ML) was not development or protection of rights, but to carry out an armed revolution by opposing parliamentary democracy.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the fight against Naxalism, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that out of 75 years since independence, power remained with Congress for 60 years, yet tribal communities continued to remain deprived of development, adding that real development has taken place only after the leadership of Narendra Modi; he alleged that for decades, they were not provided housing or clean drinking water, no schools were built, and mobile towers and banking facilities were not allowed to reach their areas, questioning how those responsible are now demanding accountability.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had acknowledged that armed Maoism was the country’s biggest internal security challenge, even compared to Kashmir and the Northeast, but no significant action was taken then. He said that a change came in 2014 under the leadership of Narendra Modi, and several long-pending issues have since been resolved.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the time has changed and under the government led by Narendra Modi, strict action will be taken against anyone who takes up arms. He added that the government is willing to listen to all issues, resolve them, and ensure implementation, but alleged that certain ideologies aim to establish illegal control and obstruct governance in these regions.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that law and order had collapsed in the Red Corridor, leaving around 12 crore people affected. He stated that thousands of youths lost their lives, and cited an NGO report claiming that nearly 20,000 young people were killed.

He asserted that rejecting the entire system and taking up arms cannot be allowed in the country and such actions will not be tolerated.

He stated that Naxalism has almost been eliminated from Bastar, and extensive campaigns were carried out in every village to build schools, open ration shops, and establish hospitals at the tehsil and panchayat levels. He added that people have received Aadhaar and ration cards, are getting 5 kg of food grains, and gas stoves are also being distributed. Shah further questioned why those who advocated for Naxalism failed to eliminate it from 1970 until now.

He said that a debate is finally taking place in Parliament on a series of events spanning from 1970 to 2026, which holds profound significance for the nation and its people.

Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement, Milind Deora said that India has always transformed crises into opportunities through unity, adding that this was the core message conveyed by the Prime Minister to the nation. The Shiv Sena MP stated that it would be in the country’s best interest if the Opposition refrains from politicising the issue and instead comes forward with constructive suggestions.

Congress member Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Monday sought to know from Rajya Sabha Chairman the status of the motion for removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar submitted by Opposition parties.

Raising the matter when the Upper House re-assembled for the post-lunch session, Singhvi informed Deputy Chairman Harivansh, who was chairing the House, that the Opposition has "no information" on the matter from the Chair.

"The notice for removal of the CEC was given 19 days ago on March 12. The honourable Chair has not informed the House whether it has been admitted, under consideration, we have no information. It is 19 days now," he said.

Without getting into a discussion, Harivansh said, "I will see."

The Lok Sabha on Monday passed a bill to amend the insolvency law to provide for strict timelines, an out-of-court settlement option and enable the framework for cross-border insolvency processes.

Piloting the bill in the Lok Sabha, Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that 12 amendments are being made in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), which came into force in 2016, that would help maximise the value for stakeholders and improve the governing process itself.

Amendments seek to strengthen the existing insolvency framework, as well as address practical challenges, and incorporate evolving global best practices, the minister said, and added that the law has been a major factor in improving the health of the country's banking sector.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will speak on the government's efforts for Naxal-free India in the Lok Sabha shortly. The address comes a day before Shah set a March 31 deadline for the eradication of Naxalism.

BJD MP Muzibulla Khan said, “They (BJP) are doing Hindu-Muslim division even during Zero Hour. This goes against the Constitution, and BJP MPs are backing it. Yesterday, one member even called Biju Patnaik a CIA agent, which led to our walkout. We strongly condemn this.”

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has officially resigned from his position as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). Cabinet Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary confirmed the move, signalling a significant shift in the state's leadership structure after two decades. Opposition parties staged a walkout in the Rajya Sabha after BJP MP K Laxman alleged that OBC reservation was being misused on religious grounds.

On the West Asia conflict, Congress MP Manish Tewari says, “The opposition submitted a notice under rule 193 demanding a parliamentary discussion on the situation of West Asia on 9 March and 13 March. The government assured us through the Business Advisory Committee that it is willing to have a discussion. However, the war has been going on for a month now, and the conditions are worsening.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to speak on the eradication of Maoism around 5 pm in Lok Sabha. 

Union Minister CR Paatil replies to the questions asked by members during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha regarding monitoring of drinking water quality in rural and urban areas. 

The Opposition on Monday sought a debate on the LPG crisis. Responding to the Opposition, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju asked MPs to stay united amid the crisis. 

"40 members have spoken on the topic. We are bringing the IBC Bill to strenthen the insolvency frameworks in India. The experience we gained between 2016 and now are being kept in mind in this Bill," says FM Nirmala Sitharaman. 

"Action is being taken against Maoists in the rural areas. Action should also be taken against 'urban naxals' who incite people to act against the system," said Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske on the March 31 deadline to eradicate Left Wing Extremism.

Lok Sabha to reconvene at 12:30 pm following Opposition chaos over West Asia crisis. 

We must remain united during a crisis like this (ongoing West Asia war). The government is ready to update the Opposition about the steps being taken to mitigate the crisis, said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. 

"In the last 12 years, the Narendra Modi government has undertaken several efforts to end terrorism and Maoism in the country," said BJP MP Narhari Amin ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah address on Naxal-free India.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defends the Indian rupee and the economy amid the Middle East crisis. "The economy is strong, our fiscal deficit is under control. Our foreign exchange reserve is good. Indian rupee is doing well compared to other emerging economies," said Sitharaman while hitting out at the Opposition. 

The discussion is scheduled to begin in the afternoon, with MP Shrikant Shinde initiating the debate. In the evening, Home Minister Amit Shah will address the House on this issue. 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to a number of questions asked about banking and finance regulations. 

The Biju Janata Dal walked out of Rajya Sabha after registering its protest against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's comment on former Odisha CM Biju Pattnaik. 

The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha reconvene.

A discussion on the eradication of Maoism is scheduled to take place in the Lok Sabha today—March 30—just one day prior to the March 31, 2026 deadline set by Home Minister Amit Shah for achieving the goal of a 'Naxal-free India.'

According to the Lok Sabha's agenda for today, time has been allotted to discuss the efforts undertaken toward the elimination of Maoism.
