Highlighting the significance of the visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "The visit to the Dam put a spotlight on the parallels between the Afsluitdijk and India’s ambitious Kalpasar project in the state of Gujarat. The Kalpasar project aims to create a freshwater reservoir across the Gulf of Khambhat, integrating tidal power generation, irrigation, and transportation infrastructure. In this regard, the two sides welcomed the signing of the Letter of Intent between Ministry of Jal Shakti of India and Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management of the Netherlands for technical cooperation on the Kalpasar project."

Narendra Modi visited the Afsluitdijk dam in the Netherlands on Sunday, marking a key stop during his official engagements in the country.

The Afsluitdijk, one of the Netherlands' most significant engineering projects, is a major 32-kilometre-long dam and causeway that protects large parts of the country from the sea. Built to hold back the waters of the former Zuiderzee, it remains a symbol of Dutch expertise in flood control and land reclamation.

According to a senior official in the Ministry of External Affairs, “On 17 May, Prime Minister Modi will undertake an official visit to Gothenburg, Sweden. This will be Prime Minister Modi's second visit to Sweden after his landmark visit in 2018 for the first ever India-Nordic Summit.” The official added that the visit reflects the growing depth of India-Sweden ties under the India-Sweden Innovation Partnership announced in 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on an official visit to Norway on May 18 and 19, 2026 for the 3rd India-Nordic Summit and bilateral engagements. This will be the first visit of PM Modi to Norway, and will mark the first Prime Ministerial visit from India to Norway in 43 years.

"The India-Nordic Summit provides a very good platform for the leaders of India and the five Nordic countries to have a political dialogue on global issues of importance as well as regional issues. It is very important that this Summit is taking place at a time of global flux," Ambassador of India to Norway, Gloria Gangte told ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the return of rare Chola-era copper plates from the Netherlands, calling it “a moment of joy for all Indians” during the second leg of his five-nation tour.

PM Modi joined Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at a special ceremony marking the repatriation of the centuries-old artefacts, which date back to the 11th century and belong to the Chola dynasty.

The collection consists of 21 large and three small copper plates, most of which bear inscriptions in Tamil. The inscriptions formalise promises made to Emperor Rajendra Chola I by his father Rajaraja Chola I and also celebrate the glory and achievements of the Chola empire.

“As Indians, we take immense pride in the Cholas’ culture and naval prowess,” PM Modi said in a post on social media.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the significance of Tamil, describing it as “one of the world’s most beautiful languages.”

Expressing gratitude for the return of the artefacts, PM Modi thanked the Government of the Netherlands and Leiden University for preserving the copper plates since the 19th century and facilitating their return to India.
