Prateek Yadav Death Updates: Autopsy report shows cardiorespiratory collapse as cause of death

There is a slight change in Prateek Yadav's cremation programme. His family will leave with Yadav's remains at 11am, while the cremation will take place at Bhaisakund at 11:30 am.

Prateek Yadav, the 38-year-old son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, had been battling deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism and recent cardiac complications, a senior doctor who treated him said on Wednesday.

The provisional postmortem report prepared at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) earlier in the day cited the cause of death as "cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism", a condition in which a large blood clot blocks arteries in the lungs leading to sudden heart and lung failure.

According to doctors, the post-mortem report revealed several injury marks on the body, which are believed to be old injuries. The cause of death has been confirmed as cardiac arrest. Due to illness, the toenail of the left foot’s big toe had turned blue.

The post-mortem examination of Prateek Yadav, son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has confirmed that he died of cardiorespiratory collapse.  According to the official medical document, the collapse was caused by a massive pulmonary thromboembolism.  The 38-year-old fitness enthusiast was brought dead to the Civil Hospital in Lucknow early Wednesday morning after suddenly falling ill.  
 

The mortal remains of Prateek Yadav, the step-brother of Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav, has reached his residence in Lucknow. 

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to visit the residence of Aparna Yadav following the death of Prateek Yadav. Preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit have already begun. However, the official timing of the meeting has not yet been finalised.

Ex-MLA Abbas Ansari, late BSP leader Mukhtar Ansari's son, also reached Prateek Yadav’s residence in Lucknow to offer condolences to the bereaved family following his death.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh chief Pankaj Chaudhary condoled the death of Prateek Yadav, son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav.

In a post on X, Chaudhary described the news of Prateek Yadav’s death as “extremely saddening” and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. He also prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength for the family to bear the loss.

Prateek Yadav’s body is being taken directly from the postmortem house to the family residence in Lucknow, sources said. Family members accompanied the mortal remains as the vehicle left the KGMU mortuary premises.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Aparna Yadav has also reached Lucknow following her husband’s death.

Prateek Yadav’s final Instagram post has gone viral following his death in Lucknow on Wednesday. The post, shared on April 3, featured Prateek Yadav sitting inside the cockpit of an EA 300 aircraft. Along with the photograph, he had written: “The engine is roaring, the sky is open, and I have control in my hands.”

Prateek had also shared details of his flying experience while posting the picture on social media.

Lucknow’s Civil Hospital issued a clarification on Wednesday stating that it had never expressed any suspicion of poisoning in connection with Prateek Yadav’s death.

According to the hospital’s press release, after doctors declared Prateek Yadav dead, the people accompanying him had initially placed the body in an ambulance to take it home. The statement said family members later expressed a desire for a postmortem examination, by which time senior officials had already been informed.

The hospital added that after completing the panchnama process, the body was sent to King George's Medical University (KGMU) for postmortem. The Civil Hospital reiterated that no suspicion of poisoning had been raised by the institution at any stage.

No external injury marks were found during the postmortem of Prateek Yadav, according to sources familiar with the autopsy findings. Sources said Prateek Yadav’s viscera has been preserved for further examination. His heart has also been preserved as part of the postmortem process.

Officials said the decision was taken considering Prateek Yadav’s significant weight gain in recent years. Sources added that preserving the heart would help in case further examination is required if a heart attack emerges as a possible cause of death.

Lucknow Civil Hospital director GP Gupta told India Today that Prateek Yadav’s driver had arrived at the hospital around 5.30 am seeking urgent medical assistance, saying his “brother was unwell”.

Gupta said an Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) was immediately sent to the residence, but Prateek Yadav’s body showed no signs of life when the medical team reached there. He added that the body was later brought to the hospital, where doctors again found no signs of life.

According to the director, family members initially intended to take the body back home, after which hospital authorities advised that it be sent for postmortem examination. He added that the family later also agreed to the postmortem.

Responding to speculation, Gupta clarified that he had never described the case as one of “suspected poisoning” and said the exact cause would become clear only after the postmortem report.

Sarvesh Pandey, a gym partner of Prateek Yadav, expressed grief over his death and described him as a person with a “very good nature”. Pandey said the incident was “extremely tragic” and prayed for peace to his soul.

He further claimed that Prateek Yadav had first been brought to Lucknow’s Civil Hospital late Tuesday night, between 11 pm and midnight, before being taken back home. According to him, Prateek’s condition deteriorated significantly afterwards, following which he was brought to the hospital again.

Pratik Yadav had been struggling with long-term liver and lung-related health issues. Reports indicate that he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on several occasions, though he never required long-term hospitalisation. Whenever his condition deteriorated, he would be taken to the facility for treatment; however, he typically showed signs of improvement quickly and was usually discharged to return home within a day or two.

The BJP Mahila Morcha in Uttar Pradesh has postponed its planned protests against the alleged objectionable remarks made by a Samajwadi Party MP against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the death of Prateek Yadav.

According to party sources, the decision was taken on the directions of Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary and organisation general secretary Dharampal Singh. BJP Uttar Pradesh media in-charge Manish Dixit confirmed the development.

The postmortem of Prateek Yadav has been completed in Lucknow, sources said. The autopsy process was carried out over nearly 45 minutes to an hour by a panel of doctors at the KGMU postmortem house. Officials have completed preparations to hand over the body to the family. Prateek Yadav’s mortal remains will shortly be taken to the residence of his wife Aparna Yadav in Lucknow.\

Speaking to reporters after coming out of the postmortem house, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said Prateek Yadav was very conscious about his health and remained focused on his business activities.

Akhilesh Yadav said business losses can sometimes affect a person mentally. Recalling his last meeting with Prateek around two months ago, he said he had advised him to focus on his business. “He was a very good boy,” Akhilesh said, adding that Prateek always stood by the family in difficult times.

The SP chief further said the family would proceed according to the legal process and whatever decision the family collectively takes regarding the matter.

The Chief Medical Superintendent of Lucknow’s Civil Hospital told India Today that Prateek Yadav showed no signs of life when he was brought to the hospital on Wednesday morning. According to the official, his pulse was not functioning, his eyes were fixed, and the pupils were dilated and unresponsive – all symptoms indicative of death.

BJP MLAs and party workers began arriving at the KGMU postmortem house in Lucknow on Wednesday to meet the family members of Aparna Yadav following the death of her husband, Prateek Yadav. Heavy security deployment remains in place at the mortuary premises, where the postmortem of Prateek Yadav is being conducted under videography surveillance by a panel of doctors.

A panel of doctors from King George's Medical University is set to conduct the postmortem of Prateek Yadav in Lucknow, sources said. Doctors Mousami and Shivli from KGMU have been assigned for the autopsy, while a senior doctor from the institution will oversee the entire process.

Officials said the videography procedure linked to the postmortem has been completed, and the autopsy is expected to begin shortly. Heavy police deployment continues at the postmortem house amid the presence of family members and political leaders.
