Don't take it to heart If I yelled at you: Sidda to ministers in parting shot
Siddaramaiah told cabinet colleagues not to take his past outbursts personally during a meeting. His emotional remarks and thanks to ministers came amid speculation over a leadership transition in Karnataka.
Amid intense speculation over a possible leadership transition in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made an emotional address to his cabinet colleagues, reflecting on his political journey and interactions with ministers over the past two decades. After serving as the Chief Minister for two-and-a-half years, the veteran Congress member is stepping down amid growing signals that the party high command may hand over the leadership to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
During a meeting with cabinet members, Siddaramaiah reportedly told colleagues not to take his past anger or outbursts personally. “In the course of the last 20 years, I have shouted at you all, become angry and yelled at you. Don’t take it to heart. Let it go. I did it in the interest of the party and the government. It was never personal,” he said, according to sources.
The Chief Minister also thanked ministers and party leaders for supporting him during his tenure.
The remarks come at a time when political buzz around a possible change in leadership has intensified within the ruling Indian National Congress in Karnataka. Sources indicated that Siddaramaiah has held discussions with senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala regarding the ongoing transition talks.
TOP GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ALSO TRANSFERRED AMID CHANGES
Prior to his resignation, Siddaramaiah has sought cabinet berths for around 15 of his loyalists, including his son, as part of any potential reshuffle or leadership arrangement. He has also reportedly demanded key positions in boards and corporations for his supporters.
Siddaramaiah has shifted key officers from his inner circle to prominent government positions in Karnataka.
Senior KAS officer Ramesh P Konareddy, Special Duty Officer in the Chief Minister’s camp, has been transferred and appointed Director of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL). He replaces Vijay BP, who has been directed to report to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).
In another major reshuffle, senior KAS officer Dr Venkateshaiah, who served as Siddaramaiah’s Private Secretary, has been posted as Director of the Agricultural Marketing Department in Bengaluru. He replaces IAS officer H Prasanna in the role.
Both transfer orders were issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) with immediate effect, citing “public and administrative interest”.
Sources said Siddaramaiah ensured that officers considered close to him were accommodated in influential departments ahead of formally stepping down from office.
With Siddaramaiah's resignation, deputy CM DK Shivakumar is likely to take over as the new CM of Karnataka.
