US President Donald Trump on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected prime minister, calling him a "strong, healthy, and wise man."

In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised PM Modi's political milestone and wished him continued success.

"Congratulations to my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on becoming India's longest-serving Prime Minister -- And a Great One he is!" Trump wrote.

"He is a strong, healthy, and wise man, and will have many years of Greatness and Success ahead of him!" he added.

PM Modi achieved the record on June 10, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office since first taking oath as prime minister on May 26, 2014. With this, he surpassed the tenure of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 days as an elected Prime Minister between May 13, 1952, and May 27, 1964.

The milestone makes him the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India's history.

Hours later, PM Modi thanked the US President for his congratulatory message and said he looked forward to strengthening ties between the two countries. Responding to Trump's post on X, he wrote: "Thank you, President Trump, for your warm wishes."

"I look forward to working with you to further advance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of both our nations and the world," PM Modi said.

WORLD LEADERS PRAISE PM MODI'S LEADERSHIP

Congratulatory messages poured in from world leaders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video message congratulating PM Modi and describing him as a close friend.

"Prime Minister Modi, my dear friend Narendra. Congratulations on becoming India's longest-serving elected prime minister!" Netanyahu said.

"You've transformed India – you strengthened the bond between India and Israel and earned admiration from millions around the world."

He also praised India's economic rise under PM Modi's leadership and said relations between the two countries had never been stronger.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also congratulated Modi and referred to their recent meeting in Rome.

"It has been a pleasure to meet again in Rome in recent weeks and to launch together a Special Strategic Partnership that looks to the future to create new opportunities for our Nations and our peoples," she said.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the achievement reflected the trust repeatedly placed in Modi by Indian voters.

"This milestone is a testament not only to your years in office, but also to the trust and confidence that the people of the world's largest democracy have repeatedly placed in your leadership," he wrote in a letter.

PRAISE FROM EUROPE TO THE INDO-PACIFIC

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said India had achieved major milestones under Modi's leadership and thanked him for strengthening India-European Union cooperation.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu called the achievement historic and expressed hope for deeper cooperation between the two countries.

"The Maldives looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with India, guided by mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared interests," Muizzu wrote on X.

Congratulatory messages also came from leaders in Cyprus, Denmark, South Korea, Bhutan, Papua New Guinea, Trinidad and Tobago and Nepal.

Several leaders pointed to India's economic growth, infrastructure expansion and increasing global influence during Modi's tenure.

Former Australian Prime Ministers Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison also praised him, with Morrison describing the PM as a statesman who had transformed India's economy and standing in the world.

Many of the messages focused not only on PM Modi's political run but also on India's growing role on the world stage.
