The Cockroach Janata Party has gained traction on social media following a remark by the Chief Justice of India. During a hearing on senior advocate designations, the Chief Justice used the term cockroach to describe unemployed youth who challenge institutions, a comment he later clarified was directed at individuals with fake degrees. In response, a student launched the Cockroach Janta Party, which amassed over fourteen million followers on Instagram, surpassing the follower counts of established political outfits like Congress and BJP. The Party's manifesto includes demands such as fifty percent reservation for women in Parliament and a ban on defecting lawmakers. Despite its online growth and claims of having over three lakh registered members, the party's social media presence has faced hurdles. Its account on X was withheld due to a legal demand, and its Instagram page experienced multiple temporary suspensions.
