Congress leader RPN Singh quits party, likely to join BJP today

In a big blow to Congress ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, its prominent leader RPN Singh resigned from the party on Tuesday, a day after it made him its star campaigner on Monday.

RPN Singh is likely to join the BJP around 3 pm today.

According to sources, the BJP is preparing to field RPN Singh against Swami Prasad Maurya from Padrauna constituency. However, nothing has been put out officially by RPN Singh yet.

Taking to Twitter, RPN Singh shared his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. "Today, at a time, we are celebrating the formation of our great Republic, I begin a new chapter in my political journey. Jai Hind," he said in a tweet.
