Munir Ahmed, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan sacked for marrying a Pakistani national, Meenal Khan, has countered the department's reason for his dismissal. He said that he sought prior permission by writing a letter in December 2022. After he submitted all the necessary documents, his application reached the CRPF director and after five months, he was told that he had informed the department.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Ahmed said that he got married on May 24, 2024 and informed the department again by sharing his marriage certificate and wedding photos. Munir Ahmed challenged his dismissal and said he wanted justice.
The CRPF, meanwhile, claimed that Ahmed failed to disclose his marriage to a Pakistani national and allowed her to overstay in India after her visa expired, which it said was a violation of service conduct rules and posed a risk to national security. The action also came amid India’s heightened diplomatic response to Pakistan following the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 people.
