In a major policy shift, the Centre has circulated a bill to repeal the flagship MGNREGA and replace it with the 'Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025'. Senior Special Correspondent Piyush Mishra reports that the new legislation, aligned with the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision, increases the statutory wage employment guarantee from 100 to 125 days per financial year for rural households. The bill also introduces a 60-day pause during peak harvest seasons to support the agricultural sector. The proposed law is likely to be introduced in the Lok Sabha soon.
