The Guwahati High Court has denied anticipatory bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera in a case involving allegations of multiple passports held by the Assam Chief Minister's wife. The court order stated that the case involves prima facie possession of forged documents, not merely defamation. The High Court noted that custodial interrogation of the Congress leader is imperative to identify associates who collected the forged documents. Furthermore, the court observed that the leader was avoiding police investigation and dragged an innocent woman, who is not in politics, into the controversy to gain political mileage. The legal team for the Congress leader argued the allegations were politically motivated, but the court rejected this, stating there is no material to suggest the case aims to humiliate him.
