The Uttar Pradesh government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, seeking a CBI probe into the Hathras case. In its affidavit in the SC, the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government claimed that 'vested interests' have been making attempts to derail a fair probe in the Hathras case. The UP government said in the affidavit that the SC must direct the CBI to probe the alleged rape and assault of the 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras. "We have already requested the Centre to transfer investigation of the rape-murder case as well as the FIR registered for conspiracy to spread caste conflict," the UP government said in Supreme Court. "Extraordinary circumstances forced district administration to take the extraordinary step of cremating the victim at night in presence of and with the consent of family members," the Uttar Pradesh government mentioned in an affidavit filed in the SC on Tuesday.
