For the first time, a woman has been sentenced for imprisonment of 20 years in a gang-rape case. The woman and her three male accomplices have been convicted in 2016 gang-rape case of a 12-year-old girl from Pune's Buldhana district.
Public prosecutor Rajesh Kavediya said, "It is a historic judgement."
Earlier, the section was limited to the word ‘a man’, however after the amendment came into force on February 3, 2013 the word ‘regardless of gender’ has been added.
This term covers man, woman and transgender. The prosecution proved that in this case the woman was the main culprit as she had helped the accused in the crime.
