Kanwar Yatra: SC issues notice to UP govt for allowing pilgrimage

The Supreme Court on Wednesday took suo motu cognizance of the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to allow the Kanwar Yatra amid fears of a third Covid-19 wave in the country. A bench led by Justice RF Nariman sent a notice to the central and the Uttar Pradesh government. The case will be taken up on July 16.

The action comes after UP Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said the state will hold Kanwar Yatra between July 25-August 6 while putting some curbs in place,
