Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced a bill on Thursday to amend the law governing Waqf boards.
Once enacted, the bill will grant the government significant control over regulating Waqf properties. This move sparked protests from Opposition MPs, who labeled it "unconstitutional" and an attempt to "divide the country" along religious lines.
Defending the Waqf Bill in the Parliament, Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju stated, "This bill does not interfere with the freedom of any religious body... Rather than taking away anyone's rights, this bill aims to grant rights to those who have never had them."
