Modi sweeps Northeast: Is BJP now the dominant national party?

India's Northeast is awash with saffron. Smart alliances, promises of development, a growing network of grass-root workers and bringing out its heavyweights to campaign has helped Bharatiya Janata Party stamp its presence in the region.

Bharatiya Janata Party did what seemed impossible. From 1.5 per cent vote share in the last Assembly election in Tripura, the party has topped nearly 43 per cent vote share and snatched the state from the hands of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
