As the first spell of heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Friday, a wall in Chembur, Mumbai collapsed on auto-rickshaws around 2 am. Operations to remove the debris are on. So far, no casualties have been reported.
The rains affected normal lives as it left the city struggling with familiar monsoon woes of waterlogging, delayed trains, traffic jams and choked drains. The Met office has predicted "extremely heavy rainfall" in Konkan region and Mumbai in the next 24 hours.
In the first five hours of the Mumbai rains, the weather station recorded an average rainfall of 43.23 mm in the island city, 64.14 mm in eastern suburbs and 78.21 mm in western suburbs. Road traffic flow was reportedly slow and local trains services ran behind schedule.
