Tamil Nadu: Periyar statue defaced in Coimbatore

In a shocking incident, A Periyar statue in Sundarapuram in Coimbatore vandalised by unknown people. Saffron paint was poured all over the statue.

After news spread about the incident, around 20 Periyar supporters gathered at the spot to demand action against the miscreants.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), G Stalin assured that action would be taken against the miscreants.

Police are now gathering CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the miscreants.

Meanwhile, the saffron paint used to deface the statue has been cleaned.

A member of Dravida Kazhagam said, “This is highly condemnable and we demand police action against the miscreants who were involved in this act. We want all the CCTVs in the vicinity to be checked and quick action against those involved in this low act.”
