In a controversial statement on India Today, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan claimed that India was ‘completely defeated’ on the first day of Operation Sindoor. Speaking to the network, the senior Congress leader alleged that the Indian Air Force was ‘grounded’ and aircraft were shot down during the conflict. Chavan stated, ‘In the half-hour aerial engagement that took place on the 7th, we were fully defeated.’ He further alleged that Pakistan was supported by ‘Chinese intelligence’ during the operation. Despite the backlash, Chavan refused to apologise, asserting it is his ‘constitutional right to ask questions.’ The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned the remarks, accusing the Congress of demoralising the armed forces. India Today’s Omkar Wabale reported that the comments have sparked a massive political controversy in Maharashtra.
