Time has come to ensure poorest of India a minimum income: Chidambaram on Rahul's pre-poll promise

Praising Rahul Gandhi's basic income promise for poor, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that that idea is to target the poorest sections of the country.

He said, "Time has come to ensure the poorest of India a minimum basic income. We are adapting UBI idea. This is not Universal Basic Income Scheme. That scheme will give equal amount of money to everyone, including you and me. That's not the idea. The idea is to target the poorest 18 per cent, 20 percent ... whoever are poor will be targeted and their income will be raised to a minimum level."

He added that he is confident that the idea will be implemented.
