A US military aircraft carrying 104 deportees, including 19 women and 13 minors, arrived at Amritsar airport on Wednesday as part of Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
Swaran Singh, the father of one of the deportees, Akashdeep from Punjab, said that they spent more than Rs 60 lakh on sending Akashdeep to the US. "We took loans, pledged properties and jewellery to send Akashdeep abroad," said Swaran Singh.
Akashdeep's father further said that the family is financially stressed and even sold cattle. "We want to say that the government must give jobs to those who returned from the USA," Swaran said.
Swaran Singh said that they would not send Akashdeep abroad again.
