US Ambassador Sergio Gor chose the India Today Conclave 2026 to make his first public appearance after assuming office and he didn't disappoint, sharing his views on a wide spectrum of topics, including the friendship between Donald Trump and Narendra Modi, the India-US trade deal as well as on the Iran conflict. Another crucial aspect that he addressed was suggestions that Trump's second term had seen a return to the India-Pakistan hyphenation policy. Gor made it clear that Washington was engaging with Delhi strictly on a bilateral basis. "Right now our relationship with India is our relationship with India, and the United States does not look at anyone in joint relationships or group relationships," Gor said. He also threw light how the personal chemistry and friendship between PM Modi and Trump ultimately took the trade agreement across the finish line.
