Ustad Zakir Hussain: The eternal melody of Indian classical music

The world is mourning the loss of Zakir Hussain, the legendary tabla virtuoso, who passed away at the age of 73 due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease. Hussain, celebrated for his extraordinary talent and contributions to both Indian classical and global music, left an indelible mark on the world.

Born in 1951 in Mumbai, Zakir Hussain was the son of the illustrious tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha. His career spanned over six decades, during which he collaborated with numerous Indian and Western music legends. His innovative fusion music and captivating performances earned him a global following.

Hussain received numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards. His contributions to music were also recognised by India, which honoured him with all three Padma awards.
