A precarious situation unfolded at the CT-3 Terminal of Mundra Port recently as a massive cargo vessel, the MSC Alexandra, drifted out of control after its mooring lines snapped due to severe weather conditions. Video footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media, highlighting the sheer power of the cyclonic winds currently battering the Gujarat coastline.
For the past several days, the Kutch region and broader Gujarat have experienced a sudden shift in weather, characterised by high-velocity cyclonic winds and surging sea waves. The 'MSC Alexandra', an ultra-large container ship, was docked at the terminal and secured using high-strength mooring ropes at five different anchorage points.
Despite these safety measures, the atmospheric pressure and wind speed reached such intensity that one of the primary ropes could no longer withstand the tension.
