West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the ISKCON temple in Mayapur and performed a traditional cow worship ceremony on the occasion of Bakrid. The visit marks a shift in the state government's approach to religious observances. The new administration implemented changes to Bakrid celebrations, including reducing the official state holiday from two days to one. Additionally, the decades-old tradition of offering prayers on Kolkata's Red Road was discontinued. For the first time in several years, the festive prayers were relocated to the Brigade Parade Ground, ensuring traffic remained uninterrupted on the Red Road. This is in contrast to the previous administration, where the former Chief Minister regularly participated in the public prayers held on the Red Road.
