Indian Railways has approved projects worth Rs 448 crore to upgrade the electric traction system on two important routes, the Mahbubnagar-Secunderabad-Medchal section under South Central Railway and the Bengaluru-Tumakuru section under South Western Railway.

The move is aimed at improving rail capacity, making train operations more reliable and supporting faster movement of both passengers and freight.

The Bengaluru-Tumakuru section is part of the Highly Utilised Network (HUN) Route-10, linking major economic and industrial centres along the Pune-Hubballi-Chikjajur-Birur-Tumakuru-Bengaluru-Salem-Kanniyakumari corridor.

The upgrade will cover 120 track kilometres and is expected to help ease congestion while supporting smoother passenger and freight movement across Karnataka and southern India.
