Zeenat Aman has been at the centre of recent remarks made by veteran actor Mumtaz. In a conversation, Mumtaz expressed her views on Zeenat Aman, stating that she was not a particularly good actor. Mumtaz questioned the number of awards Zeenat Aman had received and remarked,

In a recent chat with Vickey Lalwani, Mumtaz said, "Zeenat Aman was not a very good actress, sorry to say—I would say sorry to her as well. How many awards did she get? If you call everyone a star, how will that work? Not everyone is a star.”

Mumtaz elaborated on her perspective regarding the concept of stardom, indicating that it is a rare achievement that takes years to attain. She noted that not everyone could reach the stature of actors like Dilip Kumar and emphasised that true stardom is a title earned by only a select few. According to her, stardom is rare and takes years to achieve, naming Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Nargis and Rekha as examples among female stars.

In addition to her comments on Zeenat Aman, Mumtaz reiterated her views on Sanjeev Kumar, stating that while he was an excellent actor, she did not consider him a "big star." She clarified that there is a distinct difference between being a star and being an actor, citing Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, and Shammi Kapoor as examples of stars.

Mumtaz and Sanjeev Kumar had worked together in Khilona, while she also shared screen space with Zeenat Aman in the iconic Hare Rama Hare Krishna.

Earlier, Mumtaz had also criticised Zeenat Aman’s views on live-in relationships, saying public figures should be mindful of the advice they give, especially on topics that go against traditional values.
